'How To Catch A Monster,' Film Directed By Ryan Gosling, Seeks Michigan Tax Breaks
Jan 31st 2013, 16:50

Ryan Gosling is seeking tax credits from the state of Michigan to direct his first movie, "How To Catch A Monster."

MLive reported that Gosling applied for the tax credit through the Michigan Film Office, and plans to shoot the movie in Detroit, beginning in May. His "Drive" costar Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men") is billed as the lead actress, ostensibly playing "Billy," a single mom of two who works at a fetish club.

Gosling, who wrote "How To Catch A Monster," bills the film as an intriguing mix of fantasy noir, horror and suspense. Set against the backdrop of a vanishing city, Billy is " swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld."

At an average of more than $300 a night, room rates at the new Gale South Beach and Regent Hotel set the tone of what to expect at this $35 million investment from Menin Hotels.

Located on the southwest corner of 17th Street and Collins Avenue, this boutique hotel captured my attention from the moment I stepped foot on the property and my eye caught the entry light fixtures -- turns out, they're replicas of the originals.

Great White Shark 'Mary Lee' Tracked In The Hamptons; Cue The 'Jaws' Music

Mary Lee gets around.

Last month, the great white shark entered the surf zone in Jacksonville, Fla., causing a stir. Now, the 16-foot, nearly 3,500-pound shark has entered waters where movie legend meets reality.

The Long Island, N.Y., coast -- the fictional town of Amity to be exact -- served as the setting for "Jaws," the blockbuster book and 1975 movie about a great white on a killing spree. On Wednesday, the region served as the very real Mary Lee's personal swimming hole.

For real. The Washingtonian has the scoop, reporting on Thursday that a Vogue crew were seen setting up camp in the White House residence, a.k.a. where President and Michelle Obama live. John Kiriakou, Ex CIA Officer Sentenced To Prison: "It's Sad To Me That I'm The Only One Going To Prison" (VIDEO)
Jan 31st 2013, 16:59

Former CIA officer John Kiriakou, sentenced last week to 30 months in prison for disclosing classified information to journalists, gave an in-depth interview to HuffPost Live on his upcoming prison term and how he perceives himself as a whistleblower on torture. As part of a deal with federal prosecutors, in October Kiriakou pled guilty to the leak, which revealed the name of a covert CIA officer.

Speaking to hosts Alyona Minkovski and Jacob Soboroff Wednesday, Kiriakou said that he feels "a sense of relief knowing it's over. But at the same time I'm sickened by the political atmosphere that has surrounded this case."

Kiriakou is the only individual associated with the 'enhanced interrogation' program facing jail time, pointing out that even Jose Rodriguez, who destroyed evidence of torture, was not charged. "It's ironic and it's sad to me that I'm the only one going to prison," said Kiriakou. He went on to say "I consider myself to be a torture whistleblower and am I sad that I spoke out and blew the whistle on torture? Absolutely not. I may have done it differently the second time around, but I'm glad that I did it."

Chuck Hagel, John McCain Clash Over Iraq Surge (VIDEO)
Jan 31st 2013, 17:09

WASHINGTON -- The debate over the Iraq War was reignited on Thursday when Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took on Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel for his opposition to the surge of 2007.

McCain and then-Sen. Hagel (R-Neb.) were two of the most prominent voices debating the war at the time, with McCain backing the Bush administration and its neoconservative allies and Hagel part of the growing movement of dissent. And one of McCain's favorite parts of the Bush strategy was the surge, which sent 20,000 additional troops into Iraq.

On Thursday, McCain attempted to re-litigate whether the surge was the right decision, aggressively pressing Hagel on whether he stands by his past statements. He quoted Hagel as saying in 2007 that the surge was the "most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam."

Sam Fine Launches Signature Makeup Collection With Fashion Fair Cosmetics (PHOTOS)
Jan 31st 2013, 17:11

It was big news last year when Fashion Fair Cosmetics (FFC), the prestige brand owned by Johnson Publishing Company, tapped celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine to join the company as creative makeup director, extending the opportunity for him to create a signature line of cosmetic products.

We've been anxiously waiting for the launch of the collection, which is understandable when you consider Fine's amazing work with celebrity clients like Iman, Jennifer Hudson, Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks. It's also exciting to see FFC being revived, since many equate the brand with an older generation (re: mother and grandmother) and some might not even know that it's still around.

In fact, FFC is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year -- and what better way to fete the milestone than rolling out a few highly-anticipated collections? In August, the company launched its first-ever mineral liquid foundation collectionfeaturing an impressive 18 shades -- and now the curtain has been lifted on the Sam Fine For Fashion Fair Supreme Color Collection.

A Tennessee dog owner sent his pet to be euthanized because he suspected the dog was "gay."

A Jackson, Tenn., resident surrendered his "gay" dog for euthanization to the Jackson Rabies Control Animal Shelter on Jan. 29 because he saw his male pitbull/American bulldog mix "humping" another male dog, the Examiner reports.
